Although some training will be successful and the lessons learnt within a training initiative will migrate across from the learning environment into the workplace, the reality of the training environment is often less successful. The success of a training initiative will depend mainly upon the acceptance of change within the business culture concerned - whether the culture and its people are flexible and adaptable, and even then there may be a significant degree of resistance.
The key learning points from training initiatives can stumble at a number of points. The people who attend a training workshop may understand the learning points, but:
- They may not know how to apply the learning within the workplace.
- They may not be confident enough to apply the learning in the workplace.
- They may apply the learning in the workplace, but experience rejection or a negative response and then revert to old (unwanted) behaviour.
- They may apply the learning, but not develop or build upon it
